Bought a car yesterday, private purchase and we decided to run a bank transfer while doing the paperwork with the seller. Earlier in the day I transferred £5 as a test transaction, all worked fine and instantly appeared in their account.

Set up the payment on the First Direct app and pressed send - got an error saying along the lines of "this payment cannot be sent today, please change the date", so I pressed back and just pressed confirm again, and hurrah it said "your payment has been sent...". Except that it hadn't arrived within a couple of minutes. Called First Direct and the payment was scheduled to be sent tomorrow - something of an error on the app to change the sending date without informing me. The seller's bank suggested changing the reference and just trying again. Did so, still no luck but I managed to screenshot the app's confirmation page that it was to be sent "now" and claims to have been sent.

The seller was a trusting chap and we decided to leave the transfer running and he let me take the car - he was quite powerfully built could beat me up pretty soundly.

However it left my account by 9am, First Direct confirmed it went by Faster Payments, it's 1pm and the payment STILL isn't in their account. banghead

Definitely just taking a wad of cash next time...

edit 2: Nothing by 5pm so I call First Direct back. The payment was held for checks (despite being made at 9pm last night and removed from my account by 9am). They released it and it will be in the 6pm batch to be sent out. The is for a £5,600 purchase too, nothing major!
