I hope this is the right spot, but I am looking at new garage flooring and 2 off garage single doors.
I have had some quotes for roller doors, but seeing a neighbours ones ( albeit cheap) , seems very thin and not what I call secure. Maybe its just his , but I have been pointed to sectional doors by others. But they have frames which the doors roll onto , which would cover the lights above them when on and the frames may intrude. New up and over doors are what we have , but are 35 years old and getting tired, so after some ideas or thoughts and recommendations on what people may have bought or companies who do them.
Also, replacement flooring. I have a rubber floor down, but its had its day, so, looking at the latch panels. I have approx 24 square metres to cover. I have had some samples arrive and they are like a hard plastic. But they scratch reasonable easy and show the damage on the screwdriver scratch test. We use the garage doors more than the front door, so in a short time it will show this damage, so thinking more of a rubber modular floor, unless people have any other ideas ?

Flooring: we went with some unused secondhand carpet tiles....just over £100 with enough for our double garage (+ some spares!).
https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... for more ideas smile

Hofmann sectional are good. Ours are Novoferm sectional: pretty effective, had them about 8 years, all good. Recommend a rubber door seal fixed to floor, finnishes it off nicely (plus our carpet tiles butt up nicely to it!)

Another vote for Hormann sectional doors, although it sounds like you may need to reposition your lights, but that isn't a massive task.

Around 4 weeks ago we had a Hormann sectional garage door with the supramatic motor. We are very impressed with the quality. We converted 2 single garage doors to 1 large double so had to get builders in before the garage door company installed it.

Thumbs up for Hormann from me

Looking to do this myself, do you mind me asking you what it cost - roughly? Assuming its a rsj and a bit of fiddling about?

Cheers for the replies. Light moving isnt an issue, but the sun domes are, but if the doors are open, then theory has it , I wont need lights. The sectional doors seem more secure and seal better against the cold, but I wonder about loosing space with the rails etc. The sectional doors do completely enter the garage , unlike the up and overs, which only 1/2 does. This may cover my loft hatch too, just something to consider , which is getting into the loft with the door closed, which is no massive hardship. I wanted to keep the 2 single garage doors, then I dont open the whole garage for everyone passing to see how untidy and what is in there too.
As for flooring, thanks Mike for the old thread link, will read later tonight.

To remove the existing doors, 2 steel lintels above each door, knock down central brick pillar and install single RSJ and make good and ready for garage door installers was £1500 inc vat

The made to measure Hormann sectional door with supramatic motor with various remotes was £2990 inc vat and installation. Our door is Titan metallic which costs slightly more.

The frustrating thing for me was the overall width was 4.9m but because there are supporting pillars inside the garage to support a previous extension it meant I could only have a 4.3m wide door. Still adequate enough though.

Very solid doors and are also insulated

Another vote for Hormann. I have just ordered my second (in different homes) to replace the old barn style side opening doors. Sectional as well.

I got quoted £3.9k last year for a similar project (Hormann roller door). From memory £2.5k for the door including fitting and the rest for the pillars/RSJ required.

We had a Hormann sectional door installed at our last place and i was very impressed (we can't have the same in the new house unless we move the boiler as well)

You could have the roller type if something is in the way which means you can't fit the tracks for the sectional door

They offered us the roller which we could have had at the full 4.9m width but they are not as secure or as good looking imo

Yep, the quote was for a roller door. I'd prefer a sectional door for the extra insulation.

When/if the boiler needs changing we'll probably relocate it to the other end of the garage which will allow us to fit a sectional door.

I'd love to do it now but this house is using all my spare cash haha

Just to bring this back up to the top. I have had some quotes for roller doors and to be honest, I thought they didnt look particulary decent for the money. Having looked round a showroom today in Reading, it looks like 'might' be getting sectional doors. They seem better sealed, more solid in design and they are surveying my garage on Thursday to firm up the prices. Somewhere around 3k for the pair is a bit more than the rollers, but the seals, security and 10 year warranty makes up for the additional costs. One thing we just need to confirm, is the rails dont clash with the garage fuse box ! hence the 'might be'.
So, just need to sort the flooring now and plastic tile samples seem a no go, as they seem very easy to scratch test and anyone with gritty shoes ( we use this more than front door from cars, bikes and dog walking) will look tatty within a short while. Carpet tiles have been used before, but they get damp and smelly . Ceramic tiles would scare me for breaking. Potentially looking at rubber interlock squares at the moment. Just need to find a supplier, who will send a sensible sample. Currently have rubber flooring sheet down, but the floor gets damp , from below, so the adhesive blows and causes bubbles to lift up.

The roller door market is full of similar looking and wildly differing quality options, have you looked at SWS doors? I was dead set on a Hörmann door when I renovated my garage but decided on an SWS (elite I think) after speaking to a few people.
My renovation sounds similar to what you describe, two doors and a full floor, I ended up removing the central pillar and putting in one large door and porcelain tiled floor, I think it's been done for a couple of years now, no problems with door or floor.
