So, I've put my application in to UKPN to get our electricity moved. What do we think they'll charge?

East Sussex
Current supply is overhead cable
Telegraph pole is on our land
Ample parking
No pavement/road closures required
We've dug trench and supplied/installed ducting
I will supply and fit new meter box
Approx. 14m run from pole to new meter box

All pretty simple - but I also need them to upgrade from 60a to 100a supply.

Any ideas?

Why do you need it to be moved anyway?

100A supply? Most DNO's are 80A IIRC. Seeing at National Grid get away with charging over a grand to move a gas meter less than a metre I'd get ready to bend over........

I have never paid more than 4-500 for a supply & meter move.

I guess it could be area dependant.

We have pretty much the exact same situation and distances involved with moving our overhead supply due to an extension build

We had numerous quotes covering the options of:
- New overhead cable from the existing pole. (£2400)
- Moving the pole to the edge of the property with a new overhead cable. (£6100)
- Moving the pole to the edge of the property with a new underground cable ran through the trench and duct we supply. (£6700)

As you can see above due to the fact that the trench and duct is sorted by us (obviously we'd have to factor that cost in to the total as well) there was only a small price difference between them running the cable overhead or through the duct we'd supply.

So based on the above, maybe a guesstimate of £2750-3000.

A friend has just had the mains supply diverted as it was on the facia boards and they are extending their home. The cost from National Grid was jus over 3k.

I'm guessing the amps upgrade is where the money will go - they'll need a new reel of cable n'everyfink. £5k. Plus vat.

3k.
The larger cable will be one excuse.

A grand for them to plan and design their works.

£5-8k for the works.

We pay around £1200 for them to connect a single light column, as another example. They are not cheap - but be glad they're not BT!

£28,000, I'd imagine the money will be in upgrading the transformer

Not bad

The mob that run the london cartel dont show up for less than 2 grand. Thats after you put the duct in for them from street to service head.

And they'll also cancel a job and walk off for any possible reason they can conjure up, mainly to chuck a cancellation fee at you, even if it means leaving you without power - I have to allow for what I call babysitting time on new services - basically being there to argue the toss and tell them to do their fking job, as if I'm not they'll just blag the client
