Hello everyone, this is one of my first postings. I live in New Jersey, USA and have been watching the Ultima Sports company grow since 1999. I have also been wanting to get an Ultima GTR for quite some time but I just have a few questions. How much garage space will I need? I have seen the price of the kit on ultimasports.co.uk, and that is fairly cheap! But, after engine, tranny, seats, tires, wheels, everything, that puts the Ultima GTR in the 60-$70k range which is slightly out of my reach at this time. Is there a way I can build an Ultima GTR for about $35k-$40k?

I think it is possible... if you think about it, you will 5k for the factory wheels and tires, 2k-3k for seats, and about 7-10 for the engine and tranny... so that is more in the range of 45k... plus a few other lil things... but closer to 40 than 60k... (at least I think those are decent estimates)

A $40K GTR is possible (just). Engine and box can be easily sourced in the States. There are lots of alternatives to seats/wheels etc. However, you have to remember that there is what you might call a production spec. for the GTR and if you build it without the factory bits you end up with a "kitcar". However, it'd still be some car! MC

MC - wise words!

I started out with the intent of sourcing as many parts to keep the cost down as possible. However, I soon realised that:

a) It didn't do the car justice
b) The factory parts are of superior quality and very competitive price-wise (read cheaper) to similar alternatives
c) Non-standard builds are harder to sell when the time comes and demand a lower price.

It's a tough choice, but you're better off in the long run when you spread the cost over time if funds don't allow.

Of course, I ignored my own advice and have now pretty much max'd out in every area!!!!

Don't forget to add in the money for customs, transportation costs from the port, transportation costs to any location you may need (such as engine fitting at a garage), etc. etc. The hidden costs can add up so while the cost of materials may be about 40k, you could easily spend 60k.
