Hi Guys,

Quick check on costs following a visit by local carpet fitter.

Carpet picked out and given us a good deal on that - no issues.

His cost to fit is £10 p/m including decent underlay (not cheap) and gripper. About right?

Odd shaped loft room - about 20m2, but needs 25m2 of carpet ordered due to the layout.

Looking about £500 all in...

Cheers,

GCF

Seems expensive to me I just purchased
30smq of cloud 9 super contract 10mm for £96
gripper was About 80p per 5ft length
Carpet fitter charged 80 quid for 3 rooms (he said no price discount if I fitted the underlay and gripper so I left him to it)
Not including the carpet

So £200 fitting / underlay for a single 20m2 floor

Cloud 9 is around £3/m2 so £60

£140 for 2hrs work doesn't seem cheap.

Exactly. Buy your underlay and grippers on line.

Fitting around here is £50 for a single room that size.

If you want some grippers and are anywhere near Bromley I have some you're welcome to as was going to bin them otherwise.

They can't even be bothered to take away the new scraps in my experience.

It's a brand new room so no carpet at present.

Looking online, he is saving us about £75 by getting the carpet through him. Still a little steep by the look of it. He's a mate and this is apparently mates rate!

Never understood mates rates. If he's your mate do right by him and pay him the going rate. He's got to earn a living too.

Yeh, don't have any issues paying the price if it's right.

Ask him if he will still install but if u provide the underlay. If u r saving say £100 then split half and half... From memory when we fitted our carpet through carpet right about 3 years ago they changed £3 per square. M. Look know tradepriced.co.uk for underlay/grippers and calculate your savings.. Good luck

That seems expensive to me c£100 to fit it but you need to take the whole job as a whole, are you happy paying £500 for the carpet in that room ?

You say you saved on the carpet, would you be happier paying £70 more for the carpet and getting it fitted for £30 ?

It is not just the fitting but he has to get everything into the loft while trying not to scrape your walls and run the risk of not getting paid if he does.
It will need two people to get the carpet into the loft.
Been there done that.
