My trusty Sony PC7 doesn't have analogue IN so it's time for a new toy. I was looking at Sony HC30/40's but they've been discontinued (as they've been out for more that a week).

Specs must be :-

DV.
Analogue IN.
Image stabilisation that works on the analogue IN.
Can stand a bit of G-force.
Not the size of a house.
Cheep(ish).

I've got a short list but I'd rather throw the question over to you good people beforehand.

Thanks

Phil

Image stabilisation on the analogue in is going to be a tough one for just about any brand of consumer (or indeed even prosumer) camera.

You can use some software plugins for Adobe Premier to get rid of some of the "shake" if that is an issue.

Hhhmm, well the HC42 was on my list but it's a bit more £££ than I really wanted to spend and the reviews of the picture quality aren't that great.

Getting rid of the shake in Premiere is a good idea. I was thinking of mounting a bullet on the front splitter so I fear it may vibrate a bit. Any pointers to some good plugins?

Many thanks

Thanks chaps. Both of those look like they're worth a try. Right, just got to route the video cable from the splitter to the cabin now

Just to resurrect this post for a demo of the benefits of the SteadyMove Pro plugin for Premier Pro.

The following video(763kbps, wmv, Broadband recommended):
www.espritv8.com/multimedia/Movies/Celeb05s.wmv

...was taken the weekend of 29 April - 01 May. The SteadyMove plugin was especially helpful during the "Rally" scene (about 12 minutes into the video - sorry for the length). Just some background on the original footage: My wife (who shot most of this) is right handed, but needed her right hand as she was navigating during the rally. She shot all of the footage with her (unstable) left hand. She also tends to be a bit heavy on the zoom. Now this is not George Lucas quality, by any stretch. However, the plugin does give you the ability to enjoy footage that you would have consigned to the cutting room floor...

...enjoy
