And if the title wasn't enough to put you off reading this, then you're probably sad enough to be interested in the following.

Been doing some tricky to get enough detail from digital photography landscape shots with the D2X and aforementioned lens.

Very pleased with the quality of both. The mirror up function on the D2X helps negate any mechanical 'shudder' and the lens only shows a very slight drop off in sarpness at the extreme edges.

This pic (choose res to suit your monitor) is an example of what body and lens do best.

1024 wide

1280 wide

(2/3 of the image was cropped off to create the panoramic format)

and here is a 1:1 detail

The camera was set to sharpen at max.

I have a few issues regarding colour saturation, when taking subjects that are yellow (flowers, cars etc) the colour seems to wash out a bit... needing some help from PS. Anyone else have that problem? (Scooby has found no such problem with his D2X, so mine might need a check up).

Not bad, for a beginner...

The quality there looks way impresive on a little computer screen. I think we can expect some good things of you!!!

Why, though? Wouldn't you be better off doing shooting raw or at any rate doing this later in the process?

Probably - just experimenting.

Experimenting is good - I do 110% of the time.

Just that it's rare to get actual results from me!

Have you tried IR with it yet? Or have they got the sensor technology down so good that it records very little. (I'm loving playing with my new IR filter on the '70!)

Looks delicious on screen and the detail shot doesn't look over-sharpened. Would be interesting to see what the next softest sharpening level did though.

Supposed to be sunny tomorrow, so I'll experiment with the same shot and post.

Lovely quality of light in that shot, lovely and rich and clean. Super job in capturing that. Did you use any ND filter on the sky in order to maintain the balance between the land and the sky?

No ND on that one (was trying to avoid the thick plastic between subject and lens), but on several others that day - the ones marked 'April' ( here ). It had been raining for about 18 hours, so when the sun came out the air was well and truly 'washed'. Happens quite a lot on the west coast of Scotland as the air has travelled over water for so long. Never get air this 'thin' in the Lake District. Only ever previously found it in Scandinavia. Horizon pin sharp, absolutely no haze.

...and no traffic

Agreed it's a most beautiful area you live in. Used to go there quite a bit on field trips.

We had one evening when the light was just getting magical at dusk. I grabbed the camera and headed out of the lab for a quick break. Got down onto the rocks and had a castle beautifully framed. Took a number of long exposures. Returning to the lab I thought I'd got some absolute belters in the bag only to find I was rewinding a little too freely...NO FILM Happens to all of us I suppose, but I felt a total muppet that's for sure.
