My ex has apparently requested a variation in my child maintenance to include Dividends.

The claim for CM via Child Maintenance Services commenced in January 2017. I received the letter regarding the variation today but they have backdated the increase to Jan 2017.

Anyone know if this is correct please, or it should only apply from the date the ex's variation application is upheld?

I knew nothing of this variation application until today but knew it was a risk.

Here's a novel idea why don't you backdate it yourself to when you split with your ex. When I split up I worked out my income including dividends and used their online calculator then doubled it. Its for my kids after all not her. Do I get any thanks, No, does she try to turn the kids against me, Yes. But the money is for them not her. So man up and pay your way.

While I don't feel quite as strongly as the other poster, if you've declared your full income (because of a dividend related tax dodge), then it makes sense that your payments would be backdated.

You've effectively earned interest on the CM you haven't paid in the interim.
