As I've said before - it's good to experiment!
It always seems a bit disappointing when you have flat lighting on otherwise photogenic subjects doesn't it? But they're still nice shots, and it is invaluable to get out and practice handling with a lens.
This week I went out on about Thursday with 180mm fitted. Yesterday and today I've been out for a walk with the 85mm fitted - just to get me familiar with handling before a week away. I've got a million and one dodgy pictures of swans and geese and lifeless sunsets. But I'm beginning to handle the '70 settings like I could do it in the dark....
...that's a good sign
Another bl00dy swan picture
At screen size, it's not too bad; at 2400 pixies by 1588 pixies you can clearly see that the feathers are in focus and not the eyes. But never mind - I'm learning!
