Cladding wall behind wood stove

Planning a full refit of the lounge to include new patio doors and a free standing wood burner.
Want something that’ll stand out behind the stove - have thought about slate cladding, polished concrete, polished plaster and zinc patina panels.
Whatever we use needs to be non combustible so I guess that counts timber out
Can also do the whole wall or just behind the stove / flue.
I love the idea of rough slate to give warmth and depth, but the wife thinks it too old fashioned (quite a contemporary house).
I also like a zinc panel with possibly random welded pattern on it.
Whatever we go for will also need to link in somehow with the hearth.
Any ideas?

Don't do what we saw in a holiday home in Wales.
"Please do not use this iron stove as a heating fire. When we [the owners] had the backing installed we assumed that a mirror would help reflect heat into the room to help keep bills down for [you] our guests. We have had an unfortunate experience in one of our other properties with these mirrors in stove surrounds. Thus we ask if you woul use the electric heating only during your stay. The meter has been preloaded with xxxx, if it falls below yyyy please get in touch and the housekeeper will bring round some more £1 coins for the meter".

If you have plastered solid walls then, if the stove is a minimum distance (150mm iirc) from the wall you don’t need to clear it in anything.
If you fancy something attractive, have a look at Vlaze enamelled panelling for hearth and wall cladding.

Have seen the Vlaze stuff, but feel it’s quite similar to just having flat ceramic tiles.
