Evening,

We are due to have out stairs redone next week, and in the process I’m going to sort out removing the top newel post this weekend. It’s a fake half depth affair, do we think this will be bolted through the wood somewhere into the wall?

The 2 boards running down will be nice and easy but I need to get the post section off too!

Thanks

Dan

Just take the coach bolts out and take it from there. The post is probably just screwed into the wall.

BTW. Who would just leave bolt heads sticking out like that??

Probably screwed to the wall, might even by 'no more nails' stuck as well...taking the bolts out and removing the downward rails may reveal further fixings or be the fixings (if the wall is solid).

Good luck, stair projects are fun (ask me how I know...)

wink

Cool thanks. And with answer to your bolt question, the ‘ranch’ style stair case was never about the fit and finish I don’t think lol!

Got it off, had 5 or 6 big old fashioned nails in it smile

Made a fair mess of the wall but filler will sort that, I bought some ‘big hole’ filler designed for the job hopefully!

Funnily enough - I'm redoing our stairs next week too.

All out, all new going in and a rework of the understairs toilet as well as making a storage space in the dead space.
