I'm looking to get shot of my Calibra and thinking about an MR2 GT. What can I reasonably expect to get for about £2k? I'd like as new as possible, preferably well under 100k miles and not an import. Is there anything in particular I need to look for that is specific to MR2s?

Thanks in advance.

An MR2 GT is an import. The UK cars were GTI16 cars, You can probably pick up a decent early example for that sort of money. It's mainly down to clueless dealers who don't know about the different models that people get confused with which model is which.

MR2-GT - Import top spec turbo model with half leather seats and ABS as standard (amongst other things)

MR2-GTS - Import Turbo model without abs or half leather as standard, but they were both an option.

G-Limited - Import standard model, ranges from the 120bhp very early models with no rear spoiler, through the 180ishbhp majority of models to the 200bhp vvti beams engined cars that came much later in it's life.

GTI16 cars were the UK spec ones.

Anyone else with better knowledge on this feel free to add anything.

Good point, the 2k GT examples you've seen are likely to be very early GT Turbo imports that are more than a little worse for wear. I paid 5k for my 1990 GT Turbo a couple of years back (Ok it has a "few" mods that pushed the price up and was in tip-top condition) but I wouldn't part with it now for less than 4k, and i'm not selling it as it's an animal.

Could sell you my G Limited (180bhp) for 3k, maybe £2500.

There's nothing wrong with it but it has a few scratches and needs a new radio aerial (the existing one works but doesn't like it).
