Hi all,

I'm shortly going to be undergoing a full rewire of my house and thought it was time I bought a new shop vac as they'll be a load of dust to clean up, plus I'll have to do some sanding of the walls (using a Mirka dustless system) I think unless we go with a full skim.

Currently I'm using an old vacuum we had before we upgraded to a cordless Dyson, but the filters struggle with fine dust (e.g. filler dust).

I'm thinking of getting one of the Titans from ScrewFix, either:

https://www.screwfix.com/p/titan-ttb430vac-1400w-3...

Or https://www.screwfix.com/p/titan-ttb431vac-1400w-4...

Anyone got any experience of these? Any other suggestions up to maybe £150?

Cheers.

The titan is fine, albeit quite noisy and the tube and head are a bit thin, but powerful for the money.

I've had one of these for a couple of years.
Good suction and has been used for plaster/brick dust regularly.

Mirka is only dustless with proper extraction.

A shop vac will help but if you want dustless ideally go Class M but Class L is probably good enough.

I've had one of these for years, and it's brilliant. Great for unblocking drains too!

Use it with these https://www.screwfix.com/p/titan-vacuum-cleaner-fi... and this https://www.screwfix.com/p/titan-standard-cartridg... for plaster dust.

Does that have power take-off (is that what the power tool adaptor is?) If so it seems like a really good price.

I got a Nilfisk Aero for this purpose, but it isn't class M...

I too have the first Titan linked and use it with the Mirka kit. With the big filter fitted + a bag it's fine and sanding is dust free.

Provided it's not for trade use, where I'm sure the fine dust would eventually kill it, then it's fine.

I've heard mixed stuff about the linked M class vac above (the VTuff one), plus I think M class just means the filters are self cleaning or something?

Think I might just go for the Titan. It's not for site use, so it should be adequate hopefully and better than what I've got right now!

No m class is the level of filtration. I've just sanded an entire room with mirka deros and that for extraction once I used the m class bag it worked great!

This. ^^^^^^

Builders use them country wide, generally without a bag .... Can you see most builders buying/using bags.

Take the filter out and give it a good bang against a wall (a la builders) or just use bags.

They seem to be able to vacumn anything up and lead very hard lives, but just keep on going.

I love our Henries, but for a shop vac I think it's more important to have the power-take-off (or whatever you call it) for convenience.

So the real answer is a new Henry "for the house", and a shop vac (Titan - or Lidl do the same) with power take-off.

Another vote for the titan, mine takes some real hammer, and its only the 30 quid 16litre one. Just a word of caution, the wheels keep coming off so make sure you glue them on and thats literally the only fault i can find with it.

It's fixable...

Like wozy says its all about the filters. Keep them clean and your machine will stay mean!
