Hi all,

I'm trying to create a laurel hedge at my house. I can get cuttings cheap and plant them small and wait for them to grow or buy bigger more established trees at say 150-200cm in height. There is obviously a significantly higher cost in buying the more mature trees. My question is, how long is it going to take a planted laurel cutting to reach a height of 150-200cm?

Thanks,
Andrew

You'll be looking at some years - typical growth is a foot or two per year (conditions dependent of course), assuming you're buying 2 foot cuttings, you're looking at 2 years minimum to reach a decent height, maybe as long as 4.

It took mine 5 years to get to 8 foot tall. Starting with foot high plants.

I didn't do much to improve the soil when I planted, so maybe that could have have reached that height a bit sooner, if I had stuck a load of manure/fish blood and bonemeal in.

Maybe worth looking on eBay, as its coming to the end of the hedging season.
