That's very kind but that shot is nothing to do with the sun - it's a candle viewed from above...
Tell you what, if you buy a copy from here:
www.photoboxgallery.com/blokewithacamera/831575
...I'll let you enter the comp with it
As for inspiration, I can only suggest you go somewhere photogenic on a nice day and scout around. To be sure of best results, bracket your shots and use a tripod for easy compositing later if you need to. If you have the sun in or near the frame, you're sure to get lens flare - a line of coloured blobs - the only way to avoid/minimise this is to use a lens hood or handy piece of cardboard.

I would think it would be hard trying to win on technical merrit as there is always someone willing to spend more time on photoshop or waiting for that special shot.
No, i would go for a good photo with lots of emotion and expression. Something that masks any weaknesses you may have.
One that springs to mind is a child on the carpet bathed in the blue light of a television screen from a few metres away. I think Mr. Simpo did one ( very good ).
Or maybe a moth dancing around a light bulb.
good luck

Hmm, No it was similar to your experiment in flash with your cat. Ie small toddler sat on carpet looking at tv screen approx 2 metres away. The only light in the picture was comming from the tv.
OOps, i thought it was one of yours simpo but now im not so sure.
Nope not me, sorry!
