As diesel motorhomes hold their value at the moment As the government want diesels off the roads and the tax is going to increase in 2020 . Any one know what the bands will be and what class, it’s best to know now if possible if there is a future for buying and keeping a diesel .

I thought the tax increase in 2020 is only for new vehicles as it will be based around the new testing regime.
I suspect tax on currently existing vehicles will continue to creep up but no big step changes.
Or is it different for motorhomes?

Says who? At the moment it only applies to new vehicle purchases and the emissions standards have been tightened for new diesels sold after that date so it will only apply to those not meeting said standard. At the moment there are no proposals to retrospectively tax already purchased vehicles but you never know I guess....

Only thing that may affect is that some big cities are proposing a pollution charge if you drive an older diesel into the centre, probably of no relevance to a motorhome.

I don’t think it’s quite as you say, as some Cities say that they will charge for diesels entering their City boundaries both here and in Europe

Just been reading an insight on diesels in ( AUTOCAR) It does seam likely the new diesels will be in special tax band that meet the the requirements with the new emission technology for those older vehicles tax will gradually increase to get them off the road.

It'll be interesting how UK Gov handles van (and van based motor homes) rather than cars as I'm not convinced they will push to remove them at the same rate due to their differing value to the economy.

If I was mechanically minded rather than in the Clarkson bash it with a hammer mold I'd be looking at starting to specialise in engine conversions for vans from diesel to hybrids/full electric as this must be a future growth area. There will be a ton of vans/motor homes with years of life left in them available for buttons but seen as too expensive to run thanks to tax increases.
