We were away in our caravan last week and walking the dogs resulted in fairly muddy paws and bellies. So thoughts turned to plumbing in some form of external shower system, working off the main cold water pump.

Shouldn't be too hard to do, a bit of plastic pipe, some quick fit connectors, some sort of isolation valve mounted in a side locker and a low flow shower head.

Has anyone on here done anything similar already? If so, any tips, suppliers for bits, etc?

TIA

If you're not dead set on DIY, you can get Pre made units. Our motorhome has one which is like you describe, hot and cold feed, dial, quick release connector and a switch to make the pump run.
Ours is right at the back and the flow is feeble as a result, try and get yours as close to the pump as you can.

What about something like this?

Simply put the pump into a water bottle and run the power cable to a 12v socket or if you'll be using it regular, wire it in properly. I've got one and on the max setting, the shower head is surprisingly powerful.

Apparently my Coachman already has some sort of external connector for one. Haven't got the actual shower though, no dogs so couldn't really think of anything else it would be useful for. Might be worth checking if your van has this facility?

Thanks for the replies so far.

My thinking is that the caravan comes with a water tank and pump already, so I just need to do a bit of plumbing to get an external shower.

Sadly my caravan isn't already equipped with an external water point. Gas and electric yes, but no water.

I've got ::this:: which is a lot simpler than trying to re-plumb the caravan, and works well just dropped in a bucket of water.

Yes please to the photo's. It would be great if there were any manufacturers names on any of the valves and fittings that you could grab for me.

Search google for ‘bullfinch external shower’

Alternatively if you have a garage or external storage locker then some motorhomes have a standard bathroom shower tap and head within the garage area where it is protected but can be used externally.

Don't forget if fitting an external, you may need a switch to trigger the water pump if the flow does not normally trigger the flow.
