I read a couple of articles a while ago but can't remember the details.

I think the basics were - rather than use a simple menu choice in whatever app you use, there is a way to generate monochrome images that preserves detail and give more dynamic, less flat images. I think the method talked about involved the channel mixer.

Has anyone got any references, pointers or tips?

You're right, and click the monochrome box. This defaults to 100% red channel, which sometimes works well, but it's worth poking the other sliders about to see the effect. Technically all values are supposed to add up to 100%, but it's not compulsory.

I've only got my laptop here at present, so no Photoshop - the way I get half decent results from a VERY old paint shop pro app is to use the highlight/shadow option (rather than contrast), plus the gamma correction if needed.

Not quite as good as the channels option in PS, but a lot of peeps don't have the rather pricey PS!

Took this today and did the above.

Thanks guys, I'll have a play.

Steve, that wouldn't be version 4.12 (you are on day 1465 of your 30 day trial) would it
