hi,

a friend of mine has been offered a teg type R for £5500 with 80K on the clock.

some questions for collective,

what is the car like to drive on a daily basis? what is the insurance like? servicing? reliability?

thanks in advance.

The 'Teg is quite highly strung, a bit noisy and the transmission can be jerky in stop/start traffic, but they're still quite livable with on a daily basis.

Servicing is very reasonable, even a major service with cambelt should be less than £500 at a main dealer (essential to change cambelt at 72k BTW).

Reliability-wise, the engine is bomb-proof if regularly serviced, but the gearbox and lsd diff can cause problems with higher mileage.

Daily Driver?

Quite stiff and noisy(no sound proofing). A lot of people can't live with that. Started to nip my head on long runs after 2 and a half years.
Lead feet people like me looking at 25mpg average.

However nail the throttle and it would always bring out a grin.

Insurance?

Group 18 so quite steep.

Reliability?

It's a Honda, it will not break (well not the motor anayway) unless criminally negleted. Keep an eye on the oil (monthly top up not uncommon - more if thrashing everyday). Brakes are a Honda weak link if not properly serviced (and I mean stripped/cleaned/greased - not just inspected visually like dealers do)

Servicing?

I recommend that someone in your area recommends a reputable independent. Dealer prices can be high and quality of work my not be in my experience.
Quick edit - As imho Alex's point that cambelt can come in under £500 I think is expensive.
