Okay, now I'm getting annoyed with my day old toy!

I can't get the menu up on screen unless my finger is hovering over the on/off switch!
Is it shorting out somehow? I have fully charged the battery.

I have used a D70 before and is hasn't done this.

Of course, it has to be a sunday followed by a Bank Holiday, so the camera shop is closed!

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

You normally press the menu button once to make it appear, then again to make it disappear. Is it not doing that?

No. The menu won't appear unless my finger is resting on the silver on/off switch! I need more hands!!

It's usuable, but frustrating!

sounds like it's broken then.

I had a ply with a friends nikon the other week, the menu screen stayed on display after the button was pressed.

take it back and have it checked out.

That sounds like a hand capacitance thing. Yep, get it swapped.

Mind you Canon owners would pay good money for a touch-sensitive button, especially if it was silver

Thanks to both of you for the advice - I thought it was a bit strange! Back down the shops for me on Tuesday then

Well, with the amount of D70's v Canon 300's sold your bound to get a bad one somewhere along the line. Mind you, Nikon don't suffer the "Plastic" feel either.

Just a quick update..... it was broken, but I now have a new replacement.

I must give thanks to Castle Cameras for their very helpful and fast assistance - it makes a nice change to get good service!

I bought a Minolta from Castle Cameras some years ago. I couldn't get on with the control layout - they refunded me without quibble.
