Facelift clarification on 2001 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 996
Discussion
Hi,
Can anyone clarify this for me: Did the 2001 models get a lights facelift and powerbump by 4hp to 300 total?
I cant seem to find a definitive answer to this. Everywhere I read says the 2002 got the Turbo style lights facelift.
Here's the car I'm considering, which is a 2001 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 996.
Thanks!

Facelift was from 2002. The car pictured has the facelift lights and so should be 2002 MY with 320bhp.

1998 MY: Carrera 2 in Coupé (only), all new, water cooled, 6 cylinder 300bhp 3.4-litre engine with 6-speed manual and 5-speed Tiptronic gearboxes. Cabriolet introduced July 1998 (with hardtop standard).
1999 MY: All wheel drive Carrera 4 featuring Porsche Stability Management (PSM) and fly-by-wire throttle. All models have POSIPS side impact protection system, louder exhaust note and smoked front and rear indicator lenses.
2001 All 2001 MY models identified by electronic release for the front and rear lids and LED interior orientation lights.
2002 MY: Major upgrade to Carrera 2 and 4 with 'facelift' including Turbo's 'teardrop' headlamps, glovebox, sports steering wheel and larger 320bhp 3.6-litre engine (featuring Variocam Plus variable valve timing and opening technology). New Targa model (with panoramic, sliding glass roof) and wider body Carrera 4S introduced Porsche sat-nav PCM1 upgraded to PCM2 with CD in place of cassette.

But yet, It's a Carerra 4 and not the 4S, which replaced the normal C4.
Which confused me as I thought the C4S came in 2002 and anything that was a normal C4 must have been old lights style - but it seems maybe not.
There was was a small HP bump in 2001 it seems from 296 to 300. I think - so hard to find accurate non-conflicting sources for it on the web.
It's sold anyway - I was too slow :-)

Face lift cars were 2002 model years, but sales started in 2001, easiest way to tell is chassis number 10th digit tells you model year so on a 2002 facelift car it would be WP0ZZZ99Z2S6-----
People have put the facelift wings/ lights/ bumper on the older cars but easy to spot internally; facelift cars have a glovebox in the dash, earlier cars don't

The C4 and the C4S were available at the same time. The C4S did not replace the C4. Which confused me as I thought the C4S came in 2002 and anything that was a normal C4 must have been old lights style - but it seems maybe not.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the change to fbw throttle did yield another 4 bhp, it’s a different engine management system and map. Just as all the minor changes to engine and other spec are not documented, it maybe the definitive history of performance changes is also elusive.
I expect the car you’ve missed was an early facelift car: 2002 model year, but registered 2001. A bit like magazines, cars are often available before the “issue date” suggests they should be!

C4 is just beard talk for Carrera 4. Which confused me as I thought the C4S came in 2002 and anything that was a normal C4 must have been old lights style - but it seems maybe not.

Don't rush and make sure you do your research re-engines.
