997.1 GT3 Specifications
Discussion
Hi, am in the market for one of the above vehicles. As I need occasional rear seats to keep the other half happy (family commitments), it would have to be a comfort spec car without the rollcage.
What options do you guys think are:
1. Essential
2. Desirable/ nice to have
I realise some will say options are not high on the requirement list for GT3's but I will no doubt sell it one day (maybe!) so thinking of that too.
I'd specifically look for one with sports chrono but condition & history are the key factors I realise.
Were there any UK cars specced with bucket seats on a 'comfort' model?
Thanks in advance.

This link may be useful regards to the seatbelts.

Depending upon the size of rear passengers being considered, no rear seats may be beneficial. I'msure squabs could be velco'd in if required?

Comfort spec I.e. leather comfort seats doesn't mean it has back seats. No GT3's came from the factory with rear seat.
I believe some owners later on have installed seat belts. Haven't seen it myself and not sure what (f any) the insurance implications would be.
In my post above you'll be owners of 997.1 GT3 in Comfort spec who've added rear seat belts plus seats to the rear of their cars. All approved and insurance compliant.I believe some owners later on have installed seat belts. Haven't seen it myself and not sure what (f any) the insurance implications would be.
Sorry I meant to say I realise they aren't rear seats per se, more rear 'buckets' which could accommodate bottoms....
My plan was to have rear belts fitted.
Any comments on whether front bucket seats feature in any comfort spec cars? I've not seen any in the short period of time I've been hunting.

Problem is the buckets in the 997.1 GT3 are fixed. The 997.1 GT3 does have a double skin floor in the back so can take rear seats.
The folding bucket seats come on the 997.2 GT3. The 997.2 GT3 only has a single skin floor in the back, so can't take rear seats.
Comfort spec 997.1 GT3 is the most cost effective way to get rear seats in a GT3.
You could add the later folding buckets but the cost would be £££££.

Bucket seats were a cost option, and if ordered you had a free option to have the cage fitted, therefore the majority who specced and paid for buckets took the freebie cageMy plan was to have rear belts fitted.

Depending on who the seats are for, I've got the rear seat belt mod and have been able to get child seats in the back. It was a complete mission to find a seat that fit though, and I am not sure how comfortable they are without any padding for adults.
One day my wife was expecting #2 and we went for a nice morning drive until I had to pull over and let her be sick. She blamed the car and I blamed morning sickness. Hence forth I am now looking to get an RS as its never used as a family outing any longer

I have a 997.1 GT3 with the later folding buckets and I (or rather quickfitsbs) put seat belts in the back. They didn't do a very neat job to be honest - getting the factory seatbelts and trim pieces (where the reels go) from a Porsche wrecker would give a neater outcome, but in any case they work well for putting child seats in the rear with no insurance issues (from Mannings).
I would only put high back child seats in there though - unless you get the proper seats with backrest installed I wouldn't put an adult or kid-on-a-simple-booster in there as there is no back protection.
You could always consider the 'road-racer' look of a bucket seat for you and the folding sports seat for the passenger for easier access to the back.
In any case, do it. You'll love the car and if you can get the family in too, they'll enjoy the occasional G-force+noise while being a relatively civilised car the rest of the time.
