Wahay had my first dyno experience - was awesome... gah - so easily pleased, but what the hell- i'm only used to playing with my 1988 Orion - not *really* the same buzz factor!! (although soon to be Mk1 MR2 if I can find a nice one...)

Anyway, my TT Supra wielding chum re-dyno'd his car at Mid Kent College since replacing the minute stock intercooler to one about 3 times the size... stats reveal a hike of just under 40bhp - putting it now at 338bhp...

Is this right or did the dyno staff mess something up... 40bhp for just an uprated intercooler just doesn't sound feasible!!

Or am I being a bit cynical...

Sounds quite reasonable,

Rower charge temps = bigger slower bang hence more torque & hence hp

Reduced engine temps = ecu sees less knock so advances the ignition & bigger bang.

You usually find a bigger intercooler gives less drag so the turbo needs less effort to produce the same quantity of air, a difference in boost pressure at the inlet is often the case.

Our old 1.6 323 Turbo gained about 20hp via intercooling alone.

Was the original dyno done on that same RR? Did they change the ambient temp setting?

It was done at the same place mate, the settings were identical bcos we still had the old dyno slip - well, I presume the settings would be the same due to this... not too sure how the computer side of things work on ze dyno...

Not sure if it's UK or JAP... but it's got an auto box and the old dyno measured at 297ish. I do know it was bought off a guy called Matt - think he's known as one of the best as far as Supra knowledge goes.
Maybe one of you PH'ers knows him?

Uh oh. The old guestimate-the-flywheel-HP monster rears its ugly head.

I think I recall the dyno computer saying the flywheel/engine bhp was 475 odd... not sure if I was looking at the right thing though!!

What was the at-the-wheel (or hubs) figure?

Without taking the engine out and sticking it on a bench you cannot accurately measure flywheel figures. It upsets a lot of car modifying enthusiasts.

The best wheel figure came in at 338.7... prior to the new intercooler it was 298 brake.

Nope - been tinkered with quite heavily I think. But not too sure about the boost settings...

What should a stock TT Soup kick out then?
