Sony DCR-DVD201 problem

I got one of these this year specifically to take footage at sprint and hillclimb events.

I'm having problems with in (on) car video. I set up the camera on the rollbar (it's a Westfield) using a pukka mount and set it to record before a run. It records perfectly while I'm queueing / tyre warming and even for the first few seconds of the run ... and then stops.

Vibration? Wind noise? (I'm not using a mic)

I'm at a loss and it happens every time.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

It doesn't record at all?

Some kind of safety mechanism shutting down the laser?

Personally, I would recommend only tape based (DV or HDV) cameras for in car use. The tape mechanisms don't seem as "fragile" and then there is the issue of editing the content...
