What Camera? What Lenses?
Discussion
Just remember that a 24 mm lens on a DSLR produces the effect of a 36 mm lens. I'm on Nikon and 17 mm is the widest I have - I very rarely want to go wider (and I do mostly landscapes).
As for Nikon v Canon... don't start that in here 'cos it'll hit the fan again
They are both very good. (how's that for luke warm water)

Thought about the EOS 300/350D? Unless the extra 2m pixels are essential, they come in a bundle with an 18-55mm EF-S lens which although cheap, gives excellent results and is ideally sized for most landscapes.
was taken at 28mm on that lens, as was

17 mm
(I'd also like the 28 F1.4, but...well, those damned lottery numbers!!!!!)

I'm sure the 14mm would be useful but I guess it's only one shot in half a dozen when I go right out to 17 anyway... and in any case my bank manager has completely stopped talking to me.

I am just about to purchase my first DSLR - Canon 20D (unless someone gives me a fab reason for going Nikon D70!). My interests are mainly landscape so what lens should I start with?
how much you want to spend helps alot when choosing lenses. landscapes require the lens to be stopped down so you can buy cheaper lenses and get good results
