Hi I have recently brought a 2009 Ford fiesta ztec s and my car alarm keeps off in day light. It can starts at about 5 in morning and go off randomly in the day. But doesn't seem to go off at night when it's dark. It was fine for the first few days but then it started. Does anyone know what the problem is and how to solve it.

Thanks in advance charlie

Boot release most likely.

They fail and cannot detect that the boot is open or closed. Try opening the boot and seeing if you get a warning on the centre console (similar to drivers door open and the others). If you don't it's not detecting that it's being opened. An easier method to test this (and a double check) is to open the boot and see if the rear boot light comes on, it's located to the right under the parcel shelf, as the light is wired to the release mechanism.

This usually wouldn't be a problem with an alarm - to it the boot is always shut regardless if it's open or not. However, they tend to flip randomly and send a boot open signal. The alarm picks up on this, realises that it should be locked/closed and thus triggers.

Fix is generally to replace the whole mechanism as they cannot be serviced. About £70 last time I checked and probably an 1/2 hour labour as removing the plastic boot panel is a bit of a bugger.

Not sure if its any help, but I had a somewhat similar issue (albeit with a Vauxhall Corsa), where the batteries in the power sounder were dying which caused the alarm noise to randomly go off every so often. They aren't usually too expensive to replace. When the alarm goes off is it just a sound, or are the lights flashing as well? If they are flashing ignore the above.

A couple of weeks ago, my 09 plate Zetec S started having this alarm problem too. I thought it might be the battery as I'm not using it much because I'm working from home and have been for a while... So, took it for a long run down several junctions of the motorway a couple of weeks ago and it seemed to do the trick....

However, after taking it for a spin again today, the alarm has gone off twice again today. Once this afternoon about 3 hours after parking up on the drive, and now, again, about 20 minutes ago - About 5 hours after the alarm going off this afternoon. Weird.

The only thing I did do today tho is go in the boot with some shopping, so, is it a battery issue (as I've not even touched the car since taking it for the motorway run two weeks ago) or, is it because I've been in the boot today, and caused a boot issue, again??

I'm totally confused. Reading your post above, I did originally check if the "boot open" dash message comes up when the boot is open and it does... So, does that mean it isn't a boot latch problem??

Help!!

If it is a battery issue a quick dash down a couple of motorway junctions is in no way anything like enough to fully charge a battery.

Either plug it in to a charger overnight or take it for an over 1 hour drive.

Took it eight junctions of the M1 today and back and the alarm went off within an hour or so of getting back and parking it on the drive... Reckon I can maybe rule out a battery issue now.

I've WD40'd (is that a word??) all the latches I can get to.... Alarm not gone off since, so will see what happens tonight.... It'll probably go off again. Yesterday, Most days it doesn't go off all afternoon (after going off twice during the morning) and then, between midnight and 1am it goes off....

I'm beginning to think the car just hates the neighbours...

Just weird how it seems to go off within two hours of driving it, but then takes around another six or seven hours to go off again!??!
