Camera lens dunce question!!

Hi All,
Just got back from F3/GT at Thruxton, superb day, only the 8 car Formula Ford bringing it down.
Anyway, I have a normal point and shoot digital camera (Kodak 4530) with 3x Optical Zoom, which is not quite enough for track pictures. There is an adaptor which allows you to attach "43mm Ektanar" lenses.
Had a look around, and there seems to be a 2x Telephoto Ektanar lens.
Question:
Will this make it 6x? or 2x and not use the camera zoom but clearer? or something in between??
Know nothing about cameras, so please be gentle!!

Yep, I think I was right: all those bits seem to fit together. I'm surprised they don't make an adaptor lens that fits directly though.
On the minus side, you'll lose maximum aperture (so you won't get such a fast shutter speed) and you'll be more prone to camera-shake due to the extra magnification, also exacerbated by (1) above. So it's bit of a compromise solution.
Compacts are really not designed for motorsport, with slow focus, shutter lag and general lack of control. If you plan to do a lot of this kind of work, is DSLR feasible?
