Yesterday, for the first time ever, I actually needed a flash with a bounce/swivel head! Luckily the SB800 obliged :)

What feature does your kit have that you almost never need, but has got you out of a scrape?

Manfrotto tripod with a hook coming out of the bottom of the central column so you can hang a weighted bag on it for extra stability.

Normally it gtes snags on things but last year in Iceland I needed it 100% to hold the tripod sterady in a howling gale and it helped me get a nice image.

I've never complained about the snags since then

I guess you need those when you are a Canon user

I agree on the tape thing - I carry a small roll of insulating tape in my bag and it has saved me a few times - very handy for taping wireless flash to pillars at parties.

Also my Sto-Fen comes in damn handy in many different situations...

Yep you're right, the Blu Tack and masking tape come in handy for gagging Nikon users , and the credit cards are for more expensive (you get what you pay for), Canon bits.

I've found with old cars that gaffer tape and WD40 are all you need to make an effective repair.

If it moves and it shouldn't use gaffer tape
If it doesn't move and it should use WD40

The little scissors on one of the freebie Jessops penknives was very useful for trimming an awkward broken end of a fingernail on my skiing trip this year.
