Just tried RAC and AA for european breakdown cover and both quoted £74 for the 6 day trip!

Quick google search later and I now have a quote from Vehicle Rescue Direct http://www.vehicle-rescue.com (they appear to be part of AXA) for just £35

Has anyone had any dealings with this crowd?... Any good?

RAC 5 day cover is only £23.94. Are you leaving on Wednesday then?

Yes, and my car is now 13 years old.

RAC and AA seem to penalise cars that are more than 11 years old.

Vehicle Rescue Direct have no 11 year rule, but only cover cars up to 15 years of age, so at the moment they seem to be my best option.... but I've never heard of them!!!

if you’re a member of an affiliated car club the RAC will wave the old vehicle surcharge.
just covered a 16 year old Espace for £25 for 5 days

Hmm, the RAc covered my S3 which was 12 years old in 2003 for somewhere mid 30s, mind you my Dad has never removed me from the family policy, so that probably helped

I don't think the fact that it's for more than 5 days helps much either... but it definitely seems to have jumped in price significantly since the last time I took out European cover.
