Literally "Red Hillock" (or Mound, or Knoll).

D'oh - Pescaroloed it looking for a trivia question in return!

It certainly is. Can't find a definition for tetre - closest I could get was either tétée (which I suppose could be rouge), or téter which couldn't. The things you learn

Thanks I think.

There are numerous places within Le Mans that are called Tertre Rouge including a gynaecology clinic but references to the corner on the race track / the pub seem to suggest Tetre Rouge. Is this a subtle variation on the same word or does it mean something else ?

Having spent what seemed to be the whole weekend there drinking copius amounts of nelson it would be nice to know the meaning of the name

The official map of the circuit (look under Pratique - Accès on the lemans.org site) shows it as Tertre, and there's no Tetre in the dictionary (at least, not in mine!).

My dictionary also shows tertre as meaning "burial mound" so there may be a story there...
