Chrome bumper conversion to late MGB

I've picked up a really nice 81 registered B in Snapdragon and I'm torn about converting it to chrome bumper or keeping it original.

I've heard that the bumper quality on some of the kits isn't very good, anyone with any experience?

I've done a sebring conversion, a lot of which is much the same but without the actual bumper. It's certainly the case that the valances need a fair bit of work to get to fit well, and the grill, and grill-bonnet interface is a total nightmare.
It's all do-able and can certainly give a nice finish, I'm pleased with mine, but you need to consider these kits as a starting point, rather than an off-the-shelf affair I think.

Are you thinking of lowering it as well?

My previous BGT was Sebring'd but the original owner had all the valances fabricated in steel.

It seems a shame to take what you describe as a really nice car and convert it to just another hack job conversion imo.

Have had a couple of rubber bumper GTs and current car is a chrome bumpered one, would argue snapdragon yellow goes really well with black rubber bumpers esp if you can get them to shine( which I never got the knack of ! )

Having completely retrimmed the Roadster I'm keeping the rubber bumpers as it seems to suit it.



I have now added a BGT V8 to the garage!

It was restored into a new Heritage shell a few years ago. The front and rear valances are GRP "sebring" items and don't look right so the chrome bumpers and overriders will be fitted to this shortly.

All I need now is lockdown lifting and some sun!
