^^ My new website, or what exists of it so far. The only section that works right now is:

index->circuits->AMSC

Constructive criticism(sp?) welcome. I think I may need rollovers on the button to make it clearer they are links?

Also does anyone know how to make it so that the page loads up in a resized window to fit page?

More pics to come (it takes ages to upload allthe files on a modem using brinksters file manager).

Thanks

Stuart

First thing I'd say would be to invest in some proper webspace. There are a few PHers who can host stuff at decent cost - it'll get rid of the advertising and probably speed it up a tad too. Seemed very slow on my machine even on 1Mb BB.

Layout looks good to me. With a fixed size as you have it, you might like to think about centering it both horzontally and vertically.

As for how to open it in a correctly sized browser, well, I could tell you but would then have to kill you. Seriously though, it's possible with the JavaScript window.open(url, name, features) method (reference. But, most people don't like it when you go off opening a new browser window just for your site so I'd think very carefully before doing it.

Edited to add: I just took a quick look at the source code. I assume that you're not worried about search engines finding the site? There's sod all text available for a search engine to index, or a speech browser for the visually impaired for that matter - not that a blind person is likely to be looking at a site full of photos I suppose...

A masterpiece of graphic design and animation. Beautiful, but IMHO spoiled by two things.

One, the dreadful front end - as already said, get your own space. I did one click and straight away got 'pop-up blocked'. A gem packed in a box of poo.

Two, way too heavy. I'd say your task is to get it 1/4 of the size. I see '72 items remaining' and lose interest.

Thanks for the comments,

I'm going to look at getting some webspace, I do think brinkster is a bit slow and it limits how many visits you are allowed per day.

Any recommendations?

Also i'm going to try and get it done using tables if possible and cut down on the number of imagse it uses. Right now it was made in a graphics program then exported so its all generated code.

Hopefully I can get it done in dreamweaver and use less images?

I never realised there was a adverts, my browser must be blocking them. So thanks for letting me know

Thanks

Stuart

Another quick question please?

How do I put code in so that search engines can find it?

Is this using META tages?

i.e.

<META> Photographs, Cars, Motorsport </META>

etc.

Thanks

Would echo what others said - get a better host. Also, the fact that you can't even see the site without allowing it to launch a popup is very off-putting.

Site looks great, lovely design but unfortunately a bit slow loading - you might have to sacrifice image quality in exchange for a bit more speed loading it.

Might it look better centered rather than aligned to the left? Just my opinion but I would think so.

META tags can be used, but I believe most search engines reduce the weight they put on them greatly these days as they were being abused. The simplest way is to use text in the HTML for the text on screen. In other words, don't have an image that says cars, have the word cars in the HTML and then use CSS to style it. If you absolutely must retain control over the font, style, layout, etc. of the text then you can make use of the alt attribute on the img tag to give an alternative text description of the image. This text can be indexed by search engines.

Muncher can host stuff for you at a good rate. Or failing that, JamieBeeston runs a hosting company.

As Simpo says, a few PH'ers available to host for you.

To give you an idea of cost - hosting on a .co.uk domain with plenty of webspace should cost less then £50 a year, including the cost of the domain in the first place.
