Hi,

what does everybody use when for example they fix threaded adapters into engine blocks ?

The type of adapters that except coolant or oil hoses etc, usually a coarse thread.
I am thinking loctite 577 or Bondlock 577.

I know people use ptfe tape but Iam not a fan.
On disassembly I noticed a white paste, I figured it was like plumbers mate but an automotive type.

thanks

You should 100% only use PTFE tape on tapered threads. FACT!

Assuming what you are fitting has a seal/washer/o-ring etc you need nothing else.

PTFE tape string whatever is designed to be put on the threads & be compressed by the threads as they engage more & more until it fully takes up the gap between the two.

That is not what happens on a parallel thread, it just gets pushed out & still leaves uncompressed tape and subsequently unsealed threads.

It is quite simply not for parallel threads, I have nothing against it at all in it's rightful place & in fact use it daily exactly as described.

Use the right thing for the job. wink

Loctite 577 is good stuff, used that previously on sealing some troublesome fuel line connectors where the unions just weren't making a good enough seal
