I replaced the alternator bearing and voltage regulator last month. The old regulator had 14.6v stamped on it the new one 12.6v the repair shop said that wouldn’t matter it will either charge or it won’t.

Car has only been used a couple of times since.

It started I drove a mile to get petrol then another 10miles to collect child from school. It then wouldn’t start turned over but wouldn’t fire, and after the third go it got weaker and weaker.

Recovered home, child did not feel cool.

The dash reading was showing the battery charging at 14.6 from the alternator, whilst driving.

Charged the battery over night.

It started first time.

The battery was reading 12.2 and when running the battery was reading 14.1 so I assume charging from the alternator. The dash said 14.6 so I assume over reading.

Obviously culprit is the battery which is probably 6 years old, but anything else I should look at it ?

Thanks

^^^^ Wot 'e said.

A good battery will have 12.6 volts, every 0.1 volt below that is around 20% loss of charge.

Even the best battery & charger would need a run of around an hour to get a reasonable level of charge in it.

A full charge overnight on a charger could be worth trying, but I'll lay money on it not recovering well.

same symptoms, just replaced the battery on my civic.

Stop/start system disabled warning due to low battery and wouldn't clear even after a 1.4hr drive or overnight on a trickle charger. Multimeter out, 14.5v with car running but as soon as i stopped the engine the it would plummet, within 10 minutes the battery would be below 12v and struggle to start.

New battery and all back to normal.

can high recommend Tayna.co.uk who were on the money and battery arrived well packaged next working day.
