Hi all,

I need a new heater hose for my 2002 Ford Maverick 2.0L (Zetec). Ford discontinued the part years ago, but it ought to be easy to replace with generic hose - the only potential issue is the plastic connector in the photo.

It looks like a quick-connect type, but they usually have a white insert.

If it breaks while I'm trying to get the hose off (20-year-old brittle plastic etc), am I going to be able to get a replacement?

I've Googled around and I can find endless similar-looking connectors with the white inserts, but none that look like the ones already on the car.

Can you not put the rubber hose onto the pipe with a jubilee clip?

Carefully cut the old hose along its length with a stanley-type knife so you can peel it off the plastic bit.
No need to disturb the connection.

The hose is now off, I was actually able to get it off the fitting just by twisting.

I'm still interested to know about the fitting, though. It looks like a quick-disconnect type, but there's no room between the firewall and the fitting to get a removal tool in there.
