Hi,

Which way does it work filter-to-lens or lens-to-filter? I.e. I have a 62mm filter and a 58mm lens (which way does the stepper nomenclature work?) Do I get a 62-58 or a 58-62 (for example)

TIA,
Phil.

It must be lens to filter, that's the only logical way!

Logic! Y'see, there's the rub!

To me it was a "do shoes go on your feet or your feet in your shoes?" type thing!

Thanks for the clarification though.

Just had a look on ebay as I hadn't thought about it but one of these would save me 30 quid on another polariser...

Basically the small number is your lens size, the large number is your filter size, but the ebay sellers seem to list them any way they feel like!

Depends if it's a step-up or step-down ring

Generally, for obvious reasons, it's better to have the filter bigger than the lens

Or try a Cokin system.

Why would you want a step down ring - surely therein lies the road to vignetting?

Depends which side you're coming from!

(This is getting all very confusing; I'll find an easier thread)

A filter between lens and body yes? Have I had a moment of clarity, or am I still in the dark?

You'd be OK with a small step on a "film" lens stuck on a digital body (assuming there's a smaller form factor like a Cluddite or Dark-sider usually has.....)...
