Minolta Dynax 7D

I have had the Dynax 7D for about 6 months and I am very pleased with it. It’s my fourth Minolta body and first DSLR. Although my existing lens collection would have made swapping brands expensive for me there was really no comparison when I actually handled the camera. It's magnesium body does feel like a proper camera whereas I found the alternatives <slips into flame suit> were really “plastic” by comparison. The controls all have a very solid feel to them as if it was built to last.
Big plusses are that the image stabilising system is built into the body, effectively upgrading all your existing lenses. ISO range is excellent and most of the controls are external manual (I hate wading through software menus to get to things)

Ha - I thought of you when I saw the thread title!
Looks very competent; I hope Nikon might adopt a built-in anti-shake thing, though I suppose it would affect sales of VR lenses.
I much prefer knobs and buttons to menus, and the Minolta has no shortage of them! The only thing I'm not sure about is lack of a top LCD display, so the rear one has to serve as display and monitor.

One thought - some lens makers only seem to specify and Nikon and Canon. So if you choose the Minolta now, will you be restricted in future lens choice/cost?

When it first came out the Minolta was just under £1500 I think. To try and get a bit of market share Minolta have been steadily reducing the price and I have seen it at £650.
For the spec £650 is very good value.
If you are used to Minolta quality you will find it hard to downgrade to the alternatives....

Minolta still make their own glass and its very good quality;

Lots to choose from and Sigma make a lot of Minolta fit too. Its not as common as Nikon or Canon of course but you will not run out of choice.

I think I'm going to go ahead with it and start saving my pennies. It's similar to the decision when I brought my car Clio 182 v Civic Type R, it's a choice between good alternatives.
If nobody says there is no way I shouldn't be buying one, and nobody has any major issues with them, I'm sure I won't be left disappointed.

All of a sudden it's clear, crystal clear! I'm glad I use Minolta and Yashica! !
