Has anyone ever driven one of these beauties? The Ginetta G4 thread has some exterior pictures of the G12--what about the interior? Has anyone converted the G12 into road use? Don't you think Petrolted should find out if one is being buil, then send Graham Bell over to drive it? Why hasn't any auto mag ever featured the G12? Does the Dare G12's devalue the original G12's?

Hi kip,

Ted has noticed that Ginettas do seem to attract posting or two, so maybe he will get round to introducing a Ginetta section. That's up to him, so if all you Ginetta fans want your own section you know who to pester...

When I spoke to Ivor Walklett earlier today he didn't mention anything about building a G12 at the moment so I'd guess Dare haven't got one lined up.

Don't know if the fact Dare are making new G12s available will have much of an effect on the prices of the 1960s originals - and anyway, we're not talking Ferrari P4s or 427 Cobras here.

Think owners of G12s (old or new) regard their cars as something to be driven on the track rather than an 'investment'. After all, that is what the G12 was designed for. Pretty good at it too, setting a new class lap record at it's debut at Silverstone in 1966 and then establishing itself as the car to beat.

I've always thought of the G12 as a mini GT40.

Half the cylinders, half the size.

I read Bob Walkletts book and remember seeing a picture of a G12 crashing into a Cobra--I'd love to have that picture blown up and framed...

Here is the caption from GINETTA, The Inside Story:

"Incredible award winning photo by Derreck Buckett taken in 1967 of a Cobra ploughing intoa Ginetta G12. This year saw an absolute domination by a plethora of G12s in GT racing."

I wish I couold scan the picture in because it is quite good. Does anyone have a copy of this photo available for sale?

I think the G12 is absolute stunner and further proof that the best automotive engineers come from the UK!

Curious to see the comparison between the Eige and the G12 would pan out.
The G12 has purity of line, though.
What can you guys tell me about the YAC engine?
Thanks!

I'm a big fan of the G12 too and back in December 2001 I e-mailed Dare regarding availability/prices of the car:

Ginetta G12 Rolling Chassis: £25,850 (inc VAT)
G12 200hp Zetec/Hewland Box, fully built: £34,075 (inc VAT)

However, they did say they were working on developing a Dare badged G12 with the more cost effective option of a bike engine and an Quaife dif version for 10-15K (without engine and dif), and also with some consideration given to the SVA.

That should show F1 what excitement really is. I think that photo beats the sequence of the Mercedes flipping at LeMans!
Does anyone have an idea how to get a framable print, too?

You would need a high res scanned image and a decent quality photo printer - What size did you have in mind?

So where can one purchase this picture suitable for framing? LAT?
Thank you for the photo--it is in my archive if best photo's. Trumps the flying Mercedes of recent LeMans history--I think that was 2000 LeMans?

I don't know where you would get a proper framed print from. An A4 photo printer will give you a 11" x 8" print - is this big enough? Maybe your local film processing shop might be able to do larger prints of scanned images?

Awesome photo! I've saved it as a screen saver!

FYI, my friends think the photo was from current vintage racing. The racing in that photo loks more exciting than what we see nowadays!

Do you think Bob Walklett would know where to get the photo? He wrote the Ginetta book you know!

I bet Petrolted could talk to Bob, tell us where to get the photo and arrange a little fee for Pistonheads in the process

Hi Fizz, Bob did have an alternative Ginetta website. The man to ask is DandareDZ. He sometimes posts here.

I know that some have remarked that the G12 is a track car, but how would it compare to a Fireblade for example? Performance, etc....
