Please reassure me...

I checked my oil earlier today and the little rubber o-ring that lives on the dipstick appears to have fallen off and fallen down the dipstick hole.

I'm assuming this isn't going to cause me any problems? I'm also assuming I don't need to rush out and buy an o-ring (can you even get these?) Because it never sat in the right place anyway and was loose up and down the dipstick every time I checked the oil.

I wouldn't be the slightest bit worried.

I wouldn't worry about the O Ring in the sump too much.

I would probably replace the O Ring though as if the dip-stick doesn't seal the tube, it will cause an air leak. Air will get sucked in through the breather which might cause an engine light and lean running codes.

You probably won't be able to buy one O ring - they're so cheap that for quantities of less than a few hundred the envelope to post them costs more than they're worth. A few quid on your favorite resellers site should get you a parts box covering all the sizes you could ever need.
