To LSD or not to LSD, that is the question.

I'm having a debate about limited slip. I've gone down the technical rabbit hole on the pros and cons and think the car is probably better off without it. That said, I'm open to opinions. I'm not chasing tenths on a track, I don't drive in the rain and without power steering it'd be kinda hard to shuffle the wheel when the back end gets too out of shape. When it does reach the limits of grip without the LSD there's a nice window of opportunity to ease out of it before the car swaps ends or snap oversteer becomes an issue (which is probably why Porsche makes an open diff standard). The car is already a handful and I feel like an LSD might turn it into a street use nightmare. On the other hand, I'd really like to drift some roundabouts. biggrin

I'm getting ready to change a few things internally on my box and can't really decide whether or not to add limited slip. If any of you have experience with both and have an opinion, I'm all ears!

had L.S. on GTR1.0 in 36,000 miles never felt like the car was out of control. It would spin both tires and drive ahead straight as a string. That said if I wanted to spin the tires I always fed the throttle in over a second or so, never just a stupid throttle drop too many expensive pieces back there, and yes I have paid for all my own parts since my first car. GTR 2.0 has an L.S. , traction control, and 125 more H.P. should be interesting.

Thanks for the info! Which LSD are you running?

Quaife in GTR1.0. GTR 2.0 has a 996 GT2 transaxle with a Porsche L.S. with 60% lock going forward but also L.S. on deceleration. It's the second part that I have no idea what that's going to do or how it will affect driving the car. Anyone with insight into this combination of L.S. I'm all ears

Merry Christmas, all.

@TR3B What other changes are you doing to your gearbox? Are you modifying the oil spray bars?

All I've got planned for now is a taller ring and pinion and the 2nd gear pop out fix. So far so good otherwise!

I have a wavetrac LSD and Dont regret it. On a greasy road the open diff for my just felt like I have no traction. Also slides are far more controllable IMHO.
