Would anyone like a Cat B MG ZS 180?

I'm loathe to scrap it as, apart from the damage caused by a stupid, old lady, the car was in great condition and impeccably maintained. The car was written off in January 2019.

I would much rather it went to someone who would break it to keep other MGs alive than send it to a random scrap yard. The Zafira-driving old hag hit the rear slightly offset, just hard enough to twist the shell slightly. I was quoted about £3-3.5k to straighten it out, which I did actually consider, but in the end couldn't justify.

The car's a standard, black Mk2 5-door, the only modifications being an XTG maxogen intake, Dark Ice clutch kit and an oil reservoir that was installed by the previous owner to preserve a replacement intake manifold.

I had hoped to keep it and use it as a parts car, but a suitable replacement car never materialised. Different cars have now been bought and the MG is surplus to requirements.

Car is started every six weeks or so and moved about the drive. The brakes are probably no longer their best but everything works apart from the HVAC hedgehog, which needs new capacitors. Tyres were new, and fitted only days before the car was written off - the sidewalls still bear the chalk marks.

Any takers, or know someone who could make good use of it? I would be looking to take scrap-value money for it, just to prevent someone else from just scrapping it themselves. I'm sure someone could even straighten it out if they wanted to, and use it for track work or get it inspected and back on the road.

Car is based in Ashford, Kent.

Cracking car. Still a bit gutted, to be honest!

That is a shame. Couldn't you use a rover 45 as a replacement shell?

Yes, I did consider that and cast about for some low-mileage diesel I could save from ignominy but nothing surfaced.

Plus, since then I've started my own business, we have two pre-school children, two other pet cars I need to maintain, we're refurbishing a rental property and I've decided to go back to university! There are five cars here now and something needs to give.

The car had only one owner before me, who'd owned it and conveted it for 14 years from brand new before selling it, having maintained it impeccably. We had barely owned it for six months before it was destroyed. I'd only just got under the skin of what these terrific cars can do.

Perhaps somebody else could take this on and reshell a 45 to put another 180 back on the road?

Anyone fancy a project?

Hi Craig, sorry when I posted I didn't realise that this delightfully antiquated website doesn't have a direct messaging system - and the e-mail I used to set up the account has been defunct for about ten years!

You can message me on theMGZS.co.uk under the same slightly rubbish username I use here.
