do any work in the cabin without suffering a claustrophobic panic attack?

Now my shoulder injury has eased, am wanting to fix a couple of things, but contortionism isn't my strong suit... sheesh

Have you fixed your “problem” with the high beam. Just to say on my early GTR, the button on the dash is purely for headlamp flash so is not a locking switch. The dip switch is foot operated and is next to the clutch pedal!

Interestingly, noone had mentioned a foot operated switch, and i didn't see one, so i will need to go back and have a look. Thanks.

So no, had not fixed that yet, i was building a list of things that i might need to order along with the relay, so i could get it all in one go.

The odometer fades in and out, so cannot always read the mileage. Although not an MOT problem, the factory had said it would need to go back for investigation, so i thought i would do it before the good weather comes. They also said i should be able to easily remove the binnacle... rolleyes
Apart from wiring, a metal plate, vent hoses and other things that appeared to be in the way of even getting to the binnacle fixings!

Also the belt slack from the Willans harness buckle is caught in the seat runner, limiting the seat movement and buckle adjustment.
If noticed, that would be an MOT failure, and if i remove it and it is damaged, then it is definitely a failure, so i will need to locate a replacement for that.
Limited space again means it might be easier to remove the seat and runners, but the bolt heads underneath have been affected by ground impact damage, so i need to get the car raised to get a proper look.

I had to give up on all counts on Sunday, as i had limited time as well. So will be better prepared next time i attempt these things...
Was also nervous about triggering my shoulder having just recovered from injury, so a bit of a rubbish attempt this time.
Will have to find a willing child to send down into the hole laugh

To all of you new builders, after 2 GTRs and 14 years the above tale is why you go to the trouble of making the dash removable.

That certainly looks much easier to manage.

If the top of the dash is not fixed to anything, then it should be possible to make that top and front cut, to do a similar things on an already installed dash?

Although definitely not as easy as it would be during the build process.

Lost count of how many times I almost got stuck upside down under the dash...

Always make sure your mobile phone is in reach when under the dashboard, then in an emergency someone can come and pull you out!

That’s a great job, I was looking at making some access panels, but your solution looks much better, can you give more details on where you decided to cut, the method of fixing the dash and What you would do differently if you were to do it again ?
I’m definitely incorporating your approach to my build.
Regards Tim

Mine is similar. Maybe Steve_D has some photos of my one. If I have somewhere, I'll post a couple up. My removable part goes all the way up to the screen, but I'm not sure if that's a better option than yours, Mr Rowdy.

Hi all: we didn't take it all the way to the screen to maximize the support for the screen. if you contemplate doing this, take note of the fact that we left
3 inches of verticle material on the edges. This allows the removable piece to be installed and removed without involving the A.C. DUCTS and switches that are mounted there. Hope that helps. lee

Some good ideas and variations in there, thanks for the pics. smile

Certainly looks more useful for working in there, but for now, i will just have to learn how to fold myself up and bend in directions i haven't done before biggrin

if i have alot of work to do under the dash, i remove one or both seats... its only 4 bolts under the car, and makes access so much easier

too old to slide under the dash now with seats in place

Same here. When I installed my harness I did it with the anticipation that one day I'd need to add or repair something so I put everything in using saddle tie mounts and zip ties rather than the P clips. I also faced them all to the rear rather than straight up. I've had to do minor surgery twice now and that little bit of planning saved the day. All I have to do is pull one seat and the shifter and the underside of the dash is open season.

The only thing I could see ever see needing to have a removable dash for is to access the heat/AC matrix. Shudder.
