Im just about to purchase a laptop (P1.3ghz 40GB HD 256DDR RAM) now unless im mistaken I don’t believe PhotoShop CS2 will run on this, in which case what is the best PhotoShop I can get that will?

Incidentally the laptop will have little on it other than this Photo editing software

I have a 1.5GHz AMD Athlon and 0.5Mb RAM, and whilst it will run 7.0 and CS fine, CS2 really slows it down and for little extra benefit. I've gone back to CS.

Think it is only the Ram holding you back and you will really want at least 512mb of this regardless of which photoshop you have. I ran Photoshop CS with 256MB and worked but was very prone to freezing up, bought an additional 1GB lump and the system flies along nicely (only running a 1.5 Celeron M laptop so not a powerhouse)

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Edited to add: Beaten to it by Simpo who has tried CS2 where I have not - I therefore bow in deference and you may well find that you are better off sticking with just CS

PS7 will work fine on that. A lot depends on how big a history/how many undo's you want to use as they will eat memory/caus disk paging to happen a lot. Another factor will be the size of the images and number of layers you use. The real hang-ups will come when you want to use complex filters like the zoom filter, go away and make a cup of tea while they work !

I run CS2 perfectly well on two Pentium M laptops - one 1.3GHz and 1.5G RAM, the other 1.5Ghz and 1Gb RAM. Both 'only' have 40Gb hard drives.

In my opinion, it's all in the RAM as a previous poster has said.
