My wife’s gone to The Lister hospital to see a relative and her strategy was to charge her ioniq whilst there only to find the socket below !!

Why? Who has those?

That's a 16A commando socket. It's used as an industrial connection or a caravan hookup. You can plug a granny charger into it with the right adaptor.

She’s only got type 2 plus it’ll be slow. Why haven’t they updated?

I am sure if you let the NHS Trust know that your wife could only charge her car slowly they will divert from money from A&E to pay for some fast chargers for visitors to use. rolleyes
Edit: maybe a bit harsh, but I doubt the charging facilities for visitors is high on the list of priorities for NHS Trusts at the moment.

If the supply is only good for 16A (wiring, total available power etc) then it's technically a good option.

You can get posh granny cables like Juice Booster that will plug into it, or even 32A 3 phase (22kW if your car will take it).

It's not a charger, its just a standard industrial electrical outlet. Either installed to run machinery or to hookup a caravan. Type 2 cable is no use as the bit (of electronics) in the middle is missing.

Anyone with a boat or caravan with a mains hook-up is likely to have a round 16A plug to 3 pin square socket adaptor lead.

Are you sure that it is for public use?

It seems odd to have a socket they can't take payment from.

I thought you meant the Lister in Chelsea (ie private) but since it's NHS they probably take a kidney for parking anyway so not free charging after all.

Who listed the hospital as having EV chargers. it doesn't show on zap map.

Could be! If it is a private hospital then my posts are irrelevant.

Well she left the hozzy on 8% but lots of chargers nearby, sadly most 7kw so a frantic set of phone calls and she’s at Morrisons at Welwyn garden city.
I think that’s the last time she goes down south on the ioniq, she’s stressed out.

I think some of the early commercial vans used commando sockets.
Quite possible that the hospital has some vans that can charge on it.

The ‘super’ ambulances hook up to those when parked as they’ve fridges for bloods etc. they’ve a generator when running in the road. Generally the major incident support unit types that go out with Surgeons on board.
