Signs seen in other countries eg Sweden but never enforced in my presence.

How are they going to enforce it?
How are they going to prove it?
What are the rules? Switch off as soon as parked/ waiting, what about turbo spool down times, ref: FiF vehicle mfr owner manual?

Word of some ill-begotten non driving PA, "the engine woz running yer 'onour, 'onest guvnor"

Mit great difficulty. Ist not a big earner in Switzerland

They do enforce in the tunnels in case of jam (if they can ) - but ist different.. und ist common sense anyway.

You are supposed to switch off engine as soon as you set down if intending to wait more than 5 minutes. Ist not applying to drop off und pick up passenger within this 5 minute or so. As far I recall from rule back home...

Turn the engine off - or be fined

But I can well see some of the power hungry und greedy little tin pot bullies issuing thse things like confetti to meet some kind of quota ....

article said:

If the proposal is passed next month parking attendants or environmental health officers will be given new powers to issue £30 penalties, increasing to £60 if the fine is not paid within 14 days.

article said:

Other local authorities are watching with interest and are likely to introduce similar restrictions. Wendy Schmitt, Braintree council’s cabinet member for public protection and healthy living, who devised the proposals, said: “I am a keen environmentalist and want to see this proposal adopted.”

Und I bet he wears flip flops too Ist a lentilist und pollutes more as result of baked bean und lentil burgers.

They're obviously not getting enough revenue from their £60 scams

right so if we pull up somewhere like on double yellows or some other imperfect area as you often do to drop off etc and you leave your engine running they'll fine you with this stupid new idea, and if you do turn it off they'll do you with a parking ticket? brilliant

I'm sure there will be various excemptions. Bin men, police cars waiting outside pie shops, that kind of thing....

I'm waiting for the necessary journey permission form, whereby each journey by car has to be applied for (in triplicate) and approved as a necessary use of your car by a labour appointed official

The sad thing is she genuinely believes this will make an environmental difference! I guess she means well!

I can just picture long queues waiting at various Braintree traffic lights, engines running as permitted. Meanwhile, a naughty car driver waiting outside the post office gets a ticket! That'll help then.

And when do engines spew out unburnt fuel.... At startup

That's what I thought, but police drivers leave their engines running when they stop people don't they? Maybe there is an exemption in their case.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Funny, this. I recall raising this very matter some six or so months ago (search down, so can't find the link). Some poo-pooed the very idea, then. Ah, well - Streaky
