I've seen on the Ampera facebook group a couple of people who's garages have refused to MOT one, others suggested that they aren't allowed to not test them. A bit of Googling found this, the relevant bit is Section 4, referring to - hybrid, phev, battery and range extender vehicles.

"You cannot refuse to carry out an MOT test on one of these vehicles just because you’re not familiar with them."

Might be helpful to other EV owners to know this, I'm not sure I'd want to have the test done by somewhere that's refused to test it, but if you want to have the argument with them, this is the document to quote. They'll have to start doing them in a few years of they won't have any tests to do!

They really are no different to any other car, except you don't carry out an emissions test. Its going to be a very long time before everything is EVso there will be plenty of cars to test in the meantime.
