Considering them for my dad’s Christmas; been on the list for a while but always been price prohibitive but it’s been a good year so going to treat him. Does anyone have any recommendations on the actual products or retailers? I’ve done a little research but reckon a few on here must have them. Cars in question are a Saab 93 and a L200, although I doubt he would ever use them for the L200 as he has oldskool ramps for that.

If you mean these

https://www.quickjacklift.co.uk

I have a set and they're great although a bit of a pain to position correctly. Plenty of height at max elevation. Just make sure you get one that is designed for the weight of your vehicle particularly if you have an l200

The downside is theyre powered by a car battery, which is a complete pain, so if there is a mains version I'd get that.

Yes looking at the scissor lift type; I don’t think he’d use it for his truck, just the car and he’s always working on it so it would be getting used a fair bit. Mains supply will be order of the day too.

That site was the first one that came up when I went looking, but then almost every other site seemed to be a copy (same pics, layouts etc) despite being a different site, so was trying to work out which is legit.

I had a set last year but ended up selling them after 9 months or so. In many respects they are a great bit of kit but the only thing I struggled with was access to get under the car. As in the direction you come in from. It ended up being a real pain that to access the middle of the car you had to crawl in from the front or back.

Appreciate that may sound strange, but with a car on axle stands you can enter from the side, pass things in and out from the side etc. If I've grabbed the wrong socket/spanner then its a couple of seconds to slide out sideways rather than wriggle half the length of the car to extricate yourself. Yes I was in a slightly annoying situation in that my garage floor isn't smooth enough concrete for a creeper to roll properly on, but in the end it just frustrated me too much.

But I do understand they are very popular and I can see why. The construction and safety aspect over axle stands is terrific, just not for me unfortunately. Last tip, they can be powered from one of those '12v car jump start packs'. Thats how I did it and it was way more convenient that keeping a second car battery.

Ps Oh and forget about the pic of the guy on the box they arrive in and their promotional material. Unless you are literally The Hulk, you won't be carrying them around with carefree abandon, one in each hand !! Pretty sure every owner knows what I mean...laugh

Few pics if that helps

Great bit of kit, wish I’d bought mine earlier.

They're a great bit of kit, with the car on the drive and the quick jacks out of the way in the garage, it took me 15 minutes to get to this stage:

That's comfortably high enough to drop a subframe, replace an exhaust, replace a gearbox etc. and much more secure and less effort than trying to get the car on 4 axle stands...

Actually raising and lowering it is very snappy, and whilst I was initially annoyed by the car battery requirement / lack of mains option in the UK, the fact the car can basically lift itself up and down is actually quite convenient, I just leave a pair of jumper cables connected to the pump.

You get a bit of a feel for where to position them in order for the rubber chocks to line up with the jacking points straight away, realistically you could chop down a bit of wood to act as a stand off against a front tyre to position them really consistently if you wanted something even quicker.

Also worthy of note, when at half or full height, they are lowered down on to physical stops, so they can't droop down over time, you also just disconnect the lines once they're locked in to place so the pump can be tidied out of the way. Mine have had a car on for months no problem with an engine and gearbox swung back in etc.

I got mine from Costco. Can sign up for an online only membership.

I’ve got Costco membership so will check out tomorrow - hoping there might be some BF deals to be had. Right now the Costco items a few hundred more than the quickjacklifts.co.uk option.

Make sure you're comparing like for like, there are different max weight versions, at higher prices.

You may have already purchased one, however, the 5000slx is £400 off at the moment if its big enough for you, (too short for my E39).

I'd like some but I'd need the ext ones to get the E39 on and its about £250 for the adapters, so basically the same price as direct from the QuickJack company. Not sure if they sell that one or the extensions anymore though.

Just literally got some of these. Fantastic bits of kit.

I ordered the BL-5000 but it was out of stock so they bumped me to the BL-7000.

As mentioned, they are bloody heavy, but reassuringly so. Takes a bit of putting together, airing the system, putting hydraulic ATF in the system etc

But took me 2 hours to service the OH car and saved a load of faffing around with jacks and jack stands.

Several people have mentioned only being able to get the 12v battery powered version.
I got mine with the UK 240v mains option.

Hi,

I was wanting to power my quick jack from something other than a car battery and I see you mentioned you use a portable battery pack.. could you give me a link to something similar to what you use?

Thanks Stewart
