I have finally sold my Tuscan S to Steve at Drivestyle.

After the issues that Satch had I was very nervous, however, my experience of dealing with Steve was chalk and cheese to Satch's, I found him very genuine and straightforward. We agreed a deal over the phone yesterday, I popped in this morning and we exchanged V5 for cash.

Very good service and a deal we were both happy with. I have absolutely no reservations in recommending him and Drivestyle to anyone.

I hope the business goes very well, it is important that we have a strong and enthusiastic dealer in North Yorkshire.

Once I have made my millions I will almost certainly get a spyker from him... what a car....

They could do with updating their website.

The homepage promises "all models from the latest 4 seater Cerbera to the Typhon". Nice to see the dealers keeping up to date.

Also they are pricing the new cars plus VAT. Hence they have a Sagaris for £45953.19 plus VAT (£53994.99). What's that all about?

I could understand that Rich except............VAT is not recoverable on cars, unless you can convince the C&E that a Sagaris is a van! Some of an accountant will be along to confirm that in a minute.

Oh there he is above me now.

Sorry Mike.

New cars attract VAT on their price. VAT is recoverable by a leasing company on the purchase price and the appropriate amount paid upon disposal. Private individuals cannot reclaim the VAT. If you have a commercial vehicle and are VAT registered then you can reclaim the VAT element of the purchase price and you must charge and pay the VAT on it's disposal price. There is no VAT charged on used cars but dealers who are VAT registered pay VAT on the profit margin, i.e for every £1,000 they have to pay £148.94.
A new Tuscan with the 'S' for sports pack is £42,500 plus VAT of £7,437.50 giving a total of £49,937.50 ex-works. I hope that this helps. Best regards, Tony

Thanks for that Tony.

So VAT on new cars is only reclaimable by lease companies? I knew I as a business could not re- claim it but I didn't realise that lease companies could. The VAT special scheme on used cars is the same as the one I use as an antique dealer.

So are you advertising your cars as xxx plus VAT?

No! I personally feel more comfortable giving people the all up price, potentially someone may feel that the VAT could be reclaimed or fail to realise how much Mr Brown wants to keep financing his Government activities!!

It is actually consumer law that where a product is sold primarily to the general public, then all prices shown should be inclusive of VAT.

I remember it being covered in my Sales Promotion Diploma course work!

I came across the same details when I was working with um.....car dealers. Vehicles should be shown inclusive of VAT unless they are for a commercial purpose.
