Drove past a Scamera Van this morning in a 30 zone, when I checked my speedo (too late I think) it was reading about 35. How do these things work? Is it laser based and snaps if your going over the limit and if so does it flash?

Please help so I can sleep tonight knowing at least one way or the other.

I could say that 'what you see is what you get'....

If it is indeed a speed trap, it will be laser based (you won’t see the beam) and there won't be a flash.

This link might enlighten you:

Chances are that your speedo will over-read slightly, so let’s hope you are under their prosecution threshold (10% + 2mph = 35mph), but that’s only a guideline.

I’m afraid you’ll have to wait until the 13th before you can begin to sleep easily.
Good luck!

How do they work? Simple, they don't.

They are supposed to make our roads safer, and save lives. The only counties that have saved lives last year instead of caused more, are the ones that dont use these safety vans.

The best way to make them work would be to park them under a big boiler and set them on fire. This would then convert water into steam and allow a turbine to generate electricity.

Now thats what I call green energy.

They work by collecting 60 credit donations.
These donations are then spent on more piggy banks...

I went past one this morning in Cambridge. First I know of it my origin o2 was buzzing 'Laser'. Accoring to the origin I was doing 36mph and I think it's pretty accurate so I'm probably b******d.

Could carry on about the road being empty, good conditions etc., but what's the point.

Bloody annoying - I had a clean licence since 1977.

OK my earlier post was 25 August and I have heard nothing. So it looks like I got away with it

Could be that they have a high threshold - I have heard a rumour that 'sensible' forces don't process anything under 40. Any 'confirmation' from our resident BiB would be welcome.

Congrats - assuming you are correctly documented as being the registered keeper.

Perhaps you benefited from a supposedly 'impossible' case of sweep error (the error being negative in this instance)

Scamera Vans can also use "mini gatso" devices which aren't laser, but if you haven't heard 'owt within 14 days you *should* be Ok
