Randox Grand National 17:15 Aintree 15th April , any thoughts ? Even if its "My GF in college was called Samanatha Brown, so i backed Sam Brown"

I'd like to keep this going as a generic horse racing thread as there seemed to be a bit of interest on the Cheltenham thread last month and theres always something coming up, derby/oaks guineas Royal Ascot etc

Our Power
The big breakaway
The big dog
les milos
any second now

My stepdad used to watch the horse racing. Never put money on, just liked to watch the horses run.

I've just wasted money on the following based on nothing except on someone on a WhatsApp chat that lives near Lambourne and so therefore knows what a horse looks like. Unlike me.

On The Lash Again
Mr Incredible
Coach Rambler

I follow horses with a Welsh connection (trainers and owners) so these are my picks for The National

Back On The Lash
Cloudy Glen - Venitia Wiiliams
Eva's Oscar - Tim Vaughan
Frankie Du Berlais - Peter Bowen

Back On The Lash is a bit of an odd one out but Adam Wedge is Evan Williams top jockey so he's in.

Good luck all and here's hoping they all get round safe.

Peter Bowen’s son ‘Sean’ is on noble Yeats, so Welsh jockey there as is jack tudor on dunboyne,

My missus was a jockey so we have some interest, there are some stats to look at though most of the recent winners have been 8-10 years old, and 9 of the last 11 greater odds than 11/1 if you like a longer shot. And 9 of last 11 have carried between 10st 3 and 11st 5.

Irish trained horses are dominating too so an Irish horse that fits that mould is a good shout.

We all in the family pick a horse for the National.

We have gone for:
Noble Yeats @ 18/1 (daughters)
Longhouse Poet @ 25/1 (wife )
Gaillard du Mesnil @ 13/1 (mine)

All £5 each way.

Mine do tend to fall so I am no forecaster!

Best of luck!!

Le Milos - 16-1
Cloudy glen 80-1 (Has won before for me at 40-1, so would have been rude not to)

I won £264 on a works sweepstake on the 1967 Grand National, my horse won at odds of 100-1.

Lucky day for me as I have never actually been in a bookies and have never placed a bet in my life.

Sorry, as you were.

My favourite trainer (over jumps) Evan Williams in the next - Coconut Splash with Adam Wedge on board. A place will pay for my day.

Halfway to decent win.

Not bad for £11 stake

Agree with Le Milos, Harry S seems to be on a roll!

Others, Rachel's ride Ain't that... looks a good e/w, Corach Rambler also?

Big Dog, maybe, just for the fun!

Marvellous! Well played...

Despite the nonsense, I thought the race was a fair result?
